I do like to be the first at something so here goes!!
I probably had some hip problems for years and told it was 'normal wear and tear'! After a few xrays over the years I was finally told about a year ago that I would need a hip replacement ...I'm now a very youthful 63 by the way. As I have BUPA cover I chose my op date and went for it on 10th February in Bolton Beaumont Hospital..by that time I could barely walk around in work and had a painful limp...right leg much much worse! Op went well although the femur cracked in surgery and had to be wired..this means I can't weight bear for the first 6 weeks ..so only 2 more weeks to go. Yay!! I have been extremely lucky I think...very little pain, feeling really well ...a bit guilty in fact as I feel so 'normal' I've lots of things I found to make life easier and more comfy so looking forward to this forum taking off with a great diversity of our boney stories!!!

Welcome Chris and thanks for sharing your story here.. forums can be a bit like dance-floors at school discos I reckon - no-one wants to be first on the floor - so I appreciate you jumping in (without bearing too much weight, of course)!
It sounds like you have a fantastic attitude towards your experience and, from a personal point of view, that is SO important.
I agree - it'll be great for us all to support each-other on this forum so share share and share away!
Thanks for posting :-)

Hello Chris, I think I may be talking to you quite a lot over the next few months, I am going into hospital n July for a hip replacement then an op for spinal stenosis and arthritis, they wanted me to go in n April but I am raking my Grandchildren to Florida In June so decided to wait until I come back, I live in france and am hopefully giving it done in Lyon.
I hope everything goes well for you when you start weight bearing, you will have to keep a log and let me know, oh by the way we live in Ainsdale when in the UK o not far away.

Driving OK for a short distance and seemed fine...last hydrotherapy session today and now quite stiff...should be used to this as it happens every week! Off to Cornwall for a week on Thursday to a lodge on a country estate with an indoor pool. Physio has given me lots of exercises go do so should be even better when we get back! Hi Lynne...you've gone quiet on the patients forum!!! Hope you're OK! Ainsdale eh...we're both from Liverpool originally! Bought a recumbent exercise bike on ebay...hoping it will help....

Hi crissywissy What great news that you are down to one crutch and have managed a few without crutches altogether!! What is the hydrotherapy like? - Never done that! Fancy starting a thread about it in the "Post Op Support" page? www.honeybones.boards.net/board/7/post-op-supportPhil
