Back in 2012 I fell off a mountain bike landed badly and sustained a full intra capsular fracture to the neck of femur. Some people would say I was unlucky but I would say I was lucky. I was lucky in the fact that I was a professional sportsman and was luckily one year through a two year contract when the incident happened. With a good sponsor and my income secure it was then my job to get over the injury.
Im not saying the injury was not bad, it was and the fact that I had to be operated on in a foreign country with a language barrier was awful but being a cup half full person I quickly realised that I was better off than the majority of people who sustained this injury as I had a fantastic support network of knowledgeable people, from a specialist hip surgeon, an amazing physio and a world class physical condition coach.
Combined with some solid friends and a great family and I was able to recover and to race a bike again and even sign a new contract at the end of the year.
I already had the specialist support network in place, hopefully Honey Bones will give people with bone conditions the best chance of finding theirs.
